Greetings from the conference presidents DGNC 2021

Dear Colleagues,

With great pleasure, we invite you to the 72nd Annual Meeting of the German Society of Neurosurgery, to be held in Erfurt, Germany, from 6–9 June 2021. Our colleagues from the Polish Society of Neurosurgery (Polskiego Towarzystwa Neurochirurgów) will join us, and the meeting will also include a European session with selected speakers from the Société Française de Neurochirurgie.

For the 2021 meeting of the DGNC, we have chosen these special topics that will also be politically relevant:

  • Building centres, networks and interdisciplinarity
  • Perspectives in neurosurgery
  • Rare Disorders
  • Quality Assurance and Complication Management
  • Neurosurgery crossing health sector and hospital operator boundaries
  • Free topics

A focus session will take on another highly charged issue regarding gender equality:

  • Strong women, strong men – Will we ever achieve gender equivalence?

The residents meeting will be alloted a larger time slot in 2021 since the future of Neurosurgery positively needs more impulses from the new generation of neurosurgeons.

We are very much delighted that we are able to physically award the Fedor-Krause-Medal and the Otfrid-Foerster-Medal, in conjunction with the honorary membership in our Society, to the two awardees since the award ceremonies could only take place digitally in 2020.

The 2021 DGNC Gala Dinner will take place in the historical “Kaisersaal”, an event location that was chosen by Napoleon Bonaparte and Czar Alexander I. for representative purposes as early as in 1808.

Going with the Zeitgeist, a running event will be introduced to accompany the Annual Meeting of our society. The “NeuroRun” will provide participants with a unique opportunity to exercise with prominent personalities, colleagues and friends while helping patients at the same time.

The Thuringian State Capital will also host the Federal German Garden Show (Bundesgartenschau) in 2021 – the city will don its finest garment for guests from all over the world.

Erfurt is situated in the heart of Germany. Its medieval old town belongs to the most beautiful ones in Europe, and its cultural landmarks, i.e. from the Bauhaus era are legendary.

Also take some time to walk in the footsteps of Martin Luther who received his bachelor and master degree of philosophy in one of the oldest German universities and inscribed himself for the study of law before deciding to become a monk at the Augustiner monastery. At least treat yourself to witness the Erfurt Treasure with your own eyes in the old synagogue.

We are looking forward to an intense and interesting scientific exchange at the Annual Meeting in 2021, but also to a lively exchange of experiences and new ideas in a friendly and collegiate atmosphere.

With kindest regards
